Barbara is a native of Columbia, SC and currently lives in Myrtle Beach. She began painting in
watercolor as an empty nester when her sons left for collage. Her passion led to college at age
50 and she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree of Arts in Studio Art and Art History
from the College of William and Mary in 2004.
Since then, she has studied and worked in pastels, oils, watercolors, acrylics, life drawing,
ceramics, and printmaking which includes intaglio, lithography, woodcuts, etching, aquatint and
monotypes. She enjoys all mediums and paints unusual subject matter in strong contrasting light
and dark.
Kohn has studied with Tammy Papa, Ruth Cox, Gaye Sanders Fisher, Alex Powers, Susan Duke,
Jeff Sturm, Hank Pulkowski, Sterling Edwards, Margaret Dyer, Tony Allain and Eve Miller.
She is a member of IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies), the Pastel Society of
South Carolina, Brookgreen Gardens Plein Air Guild, Southeastern Pastel Society, Red Rock
Pastel Society of Nevada, Waterway Art Association, Seacoast Artist Guild and Studio 8.
