Freeman Beard is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, an associate of the National Watercolor Society and a member of Durham Art Guild in Durham, NC. He grew up in the foothills of the North Carolina mountains and studied at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL.
“I would classify my style as realistic impressionism,” says Beard. “I paint using the traditional technique of transparent watercolors and allow the paper to be my whitest white.”
He continues, “For me, painting is an attempt to capture the color, mood and truth of a subject – whether that subject is the mist hanging on the side of a mountain, the color of a flower or water rushing over a boulder in a mountain stream.”
