Joyce Fiedler collected sea glass from the shores of Staten Island, NY and New Jersey for 33+ years until relocating to the southeastern shores of North Carolina in 2023. After gathering sea glass in jars that filled up over the years, Joyce decided to create something with the glass that would showcase all the beautiful shades and tones, so she started making sea glass trees. Joyce began selling the trees in a local boutique by the beach in New Jersey. The following year she became a vendor at local craft fairs at the Jersey Shore. She then retired from teaching and moved to North Carolina in 2023 and continued selling at craft fairs in the area. 2024 will mark Joyce's 5th year creating the trees, and along the way she's added succulents, seagulls, and driftwood sculptures. Now that her personal sea glass stash has dwindled, and she no longer lives where sea glass is plentiful, she's started purchasing authentic sea glass from New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Bulgaria, Russia, Greece, Latvia, and Romania. Every once in a while she throws in a rare North Carolina sea glass find! Artist Statement: Seaglass has a magical quality to those who love it. It has imperfections, is broken, and has been thrown away, and although it is not always perfect you can make something beautiful and treasured with it.
