Tolliver was an American Contemporary Folk Artist from Montgomery Alabama. He started painting after a work accident crushed his legs. He frequently worked with house paint on plywood or even table tops and cabinet doors. The themes of his work were from his own life. He has had work exhibited at The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC. He is in numerous permanent collections around the country. “Pipe Smoker” and “Grotesque Self Portrait” came to the gallery through Ledbetter Folk Art Auction in NC. “Grotesque Self Portrait” was originally purchased directly from the artist by well known folk art collector Micki Beth Stiller.
