Oil and Acrylic Painting
with Instructor Ruth Cox

Wednesdays and Fridays 1:00 – 4:00, $20 per class
Call the gallery at 910.575.5999 to register

This class is for people who have a sincere desire to learn. A table easel or standing easel is necessary, along with whatever painting supplies and equipment you already have. Please, no turpentine or smelly solvents. For oil painting, Ruth recommends Golden’s Gamsol odorless brush cleaner, which is really odorless.

The class will be about composition, color and value relationships, and drawing and painting from life. We will do small quick studies. We will have a model or a still life setup for each class. You may bring your own setups. No copying from photographs, please.

Ruth will give a demonstration at the beginning of each class, if desired. Individual help and suggestions will be given during class.

This is not a class where the teacher does the work for you and sends you home with a completed masterpiece! Loosen up. Expect frustration and failures that teach you something, and expect moments that make you say “Aha!” Expect to learn things that will help you critique and improve your work.

Watercolor Painting
with Instructor Brenda Riggins

Fridays 10:00 – 12:30, $25 per class
A suggested materials list will be provided

This class will be fun, relaxing, and informal. We will explore the principals of art and design. We will be color mixing with a limited palette. We are going to be applying the use of dominance, accents, values, and lost and found edges just to name a few.

Watercolor is not the easiest, nor is it the hardest medium. It takes time, patience, and practice exploring what watercolor can do on the paper. The best way to get better is to “paint, paint, paint”.
