Beth Wicker has been an artist all her life. She has a BA in Art from Meredith College in Raleigh and took graduate classes in Art at UNC-Chapel before finishing her MFA at USC-Columbia. The artist says, “My work is inspired by the beauty in the natural world that surrounds me. My studio is in the country, and I can look out my windows to see a range of wildlife and plants. I have been rockhounding since I was a kid, and never met a stone I didn’t like.”

She has been involved in numerous groups, including the NC Society of Goldsmiths, the Artisans of the SC Cotton Trail and the Cheraw Arts Commission. She has been on the Approved Artist Roster for the SC Arts commission for over 30 years and has been given residencies throughout SC during that time. She has shown her work at Spoleto in Charleston and has been curator for the largest international online jewelry exhibition for the Ganoksin website, which is the world’s largest online site for jewelers.

Her Trunk Show at Sunset River Marketplace will include a range of necklaces, earrings and sculptural metal in different metals and stones. “The works I have chosen for the Trunk Show run across a range of my various skills,” she says, “including anticlastic forming, cold and hot forming, soldering, stone setting, etching, chasing and creating unusual and unique settings and clasps.

“I often begin by selecting a stone or stones, and playing with those until they tell me what they want to be. Because this is jewelry, it must be comfortable to wear and it must be durable and lasting. I want my creations to be tiny sculptures that you wear and delight in.”
