January 16 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Otis L. Lee, Jr. is a remarkable individual who defied the challenges of segregation and Jim Crow laws during his upbringing. Originally an attorney, Otis has now embarked on a successful career as an author. In November 2024 he spoke at the gallery’s Coffee With the Authors event about his book,  “I Was Born in the Forest,  A Traveler’s Guide to Quilombos the Citadels of African Resistance to Slavery in Portuguese America and a Story of Black Spartacus.”  On January 16, he returns to present “A Dive Into the Culture of Quilombos,” about his recent post publication research field trip to Brazil.

This is a free event, but seating is limited, so attendees are requested to reserve a seat by calling the gallery at 910.575.5999.
