Gallery raises over $12,000 for Lower Cape Fear LifeCare

On Friday, June 2, Sunset River Gallery in Calabash, NC held its inaugural Hearts + Arts fundraiser. The event’s beneficiary was Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, a nonprofit provider of hospice, palliative, and grief care covering Brunswick, New Hanover, Columbus, Pender, Onslow, Robeson, Bladen, and Duplin Counties in North Carolina; and Horry, Georgetown, and Marion Counties in South Carolina.

The evening included live entertainment by After Hours Jazz Band, heavy hors d’oeuvres by local chef Philip Laura, and a silent auction featuring works by Marcus McClanahan (oil), Janet B. Sessoms (oil), Ginny Lassiter (acrylic), Chantal Tomiello (acrylic) Ruth Cox (acrylic), Rich Flanegan (oil), Diane Flanegan (stained glass), Vann Fine Art Portraits (photography); and potters, Jeffcoat Pottery, Brian Evans, and Betsy Sellers.

Gallery director Samantha Spalti has announced that proceeds from the evening totaled $12,011 and were presented to Anne Hewett of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare at the gallery on Monday, June 5. Spalti said, “Many thanks are owed to our wonderful sponsors and all the artists who donated their work, time, and funding to this. Not only did the art elevate the event, but everyone’s involvement showed our commitment to the wellbeing and care of others.”
