On Thursday, March 10, from 10 to 11 a.m., Sunset River Marketplace art gallery will feature Jeanne Maxon and her therapy dog, Lady, at the year’s first Coffee With the Authors event. Coffee, tea and breakfast treats will be provided, and there is no charge to the public. Seating is limited, however, so reservations are required. Maxon’s book is titled “Becoming Lady: A Rescued Golden’s Journey From Lonely to Loved.” She is the founder of the Therapy Dog Program for Canine Angels, Inc., a nonprofit that rescues shelter dogs and trains them as service dogs for disable veterans. Since Maxon started the therapy program, more than 30 handlers and their dogs have been certified as Canine Angel Therapy Teams.

According to Maxon, she and Lady share sunrise beach walks, a king-sized bed, an aging Subaru, and their hearts with a second Golden Retriever named Bode. The three-pack lives in Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
