Kinnison is a native of Wheeling, WV and was raised in Bridgeport, OH. She received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the Columbus college of Art & Design in 1993. Since then she has lived and painted in Taos, NM before moving to the port city of Wilmington. Especially inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Georgia O’Keefe, Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miro, Kinnison focuses on exploring color, shape and texture in her work.

The artist says, “To me, art is a dance . . . a profound relationship of movement, colors, lines, textures and shapes. I am completely intrigued by the exploration process. I love discovering what happens when you put one color next to the other, one shape next to another … the movement, the stillness, the tension, the release.”

For the Calabash show, she was influenced by nature unfolding around her, the ocean and waterways, the marshlands.  “In Ascending,” she says, “I see an angel flying upwards. This painting gives me chills. I love the texture. It was created with sand from Wrightsville Beach. It also has gold metallic paint in it that reflects when the light hits.”
