Golf author Pete Hoyer to speak April 6 at Coffee With the Authors

J. Peter (Pete) Hoyer is scheduled to speak at Sunset River Marketplace on Thursday, April 6 from 10 – 11 a.m. as part of the gallery’s ongoing Coffee With the Authors series. Characters On the Green: Everyday Golfers are the Real Character of the Game is Hoyer’s first book. Inspiration came after more than 40 years of golfing with zany personalities and their unique situations. Undoubtedly, readers have met some of these characters whether on the course or elsewhere. It is intentionally lighthearted and fun, much like the game of golf is supposed to be for amateurs.

Hoyer is a retired military veteran, honored as a Distinguished Member of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps Regiments and for continued service with the Dept. of the Army. During his years of combined military and civilian service, he has mentored and taught logistics and transportation to soldiers of every rank. He commanded an Army transportation truck company and was executive officer of a logistics battalion, among many other assignments. He holds a B.A. degree from the Citadel and a Masters from Webster University, as well as a second Masters from Troy State University.

He has been involved in several professional tournaments. He was a marshal at the 2013 and 2014 PGA tournaments and the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst. For 17 consecutive years he directed an annual amateur tournament on Veterans’ Day. When he’s not on the course, he volunteers to coach youth baseball and golf teams. He currently resides in North Carolina with his golf-weary wife, Carol.

The event at Sunset River Marketplace is free, but seating is limited so reservations are required. Call the gallery at 910.575.5999 to hold your spot.
