Manning to Speak at Gallery’s ‘Coffee With the Authors’ Event On Dec. 4

Writer David Manning is set to speak at Sunset River Marketplace art gallery in Calabash, N.C. on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. as part of the gallery’s ongoing Coffee With the Authors series. Manning is the author of the mystery novel “Dead Letters,” which is set in a fictional version on Sunset Beach, N.C. and was inspired by the author’s own encounters with the island’s Kindred Spirit mailbox while visiting his parents in Carolina Shores.

He has also written four other books and his shorter works have appeared in numerous literary magazines and newspapers. In addition, he and his wife, dancer Suzanne White Manning, co-directed the critically acclaimed Synergic Theater from 1974 to 1994.The company was founded in Durham, where he had been a student at Duke University and his wife served on the faculty. They have also lived in San Francisco, Barcelona and New York.

Manning’s creative endeavors were supported along the way with a parallel career in promotion/PR, including stints with the North Carolina Bicentennial Folklife Festival and the American Dance Festival in Durham, among other arts, media and education organizations. He retired as Director of Marketing, Membership and Media Relations at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
