Moriarty, author of “The Secrets She Kept” to speak at gallery on Nov. 6
Trisha Moriarty, author of the memoir “The Secrets She Kept,” is set to speak at Sunset River Marketplace as part of the Calabash art gallery’s ongoing Coffee With the Authors series. It will take place on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 10 to 11 a.m. Coffee and breakfast sweets will be served. The presentation is free, but seating is limited so reservations are requested. Call 910.575.5999 to hold a seat for you.
The memoir tells the story of the author’s mother who has an affair with the local parish priest during the late fifties. Most of the residents of the blue-collar town of Hitchcock, Mass. work in the textile mills along the canals and devote their free time to the workings of the Catholic church there. Consequently, the majority of the Irish Catholic community, with the exception of the author’s father, knows about the affair. The affair was just one of many secrets the mother expected her daughter to keep from him. After her mother’s death, Moriarty finally learns the reasons for her actions., bringing both understanding and forgiveness.
The author is an Emmy-award winning television producer/director who also taught film and television in Boston, Mass. and was a visiting profession at Coastal Carolina University.
