Sunset River Marketplace presents group show “Renewal’ through May 14

Gallery presents ‘Renewal,’ a celebration of the rains that bring Spring Fever, new growth, and outdoor activities. The group exhibition includes oil paintings, acrylics, watercolors, and photography. Subject matter ranges from Paris in the rain to children in yellow rain slickers, local wildlife, bicycling, garden bouquets and more. Umbrellas abound!

Featured artists are Lee Mims (oils), Donn McCrary (acrylics), Brenda Riggins (watercolor and acrylics), Vicki Neilon (acrylics), Judi Moore (acrylics), Louis Aliotta (photography), Linda Karaskevicus (watercolor), Roseann Bellinger (acrylics), Gary Baird (photography), Janet Sessoms (oil), Ortrud Tyler (acrylics), Roberta Rotunda (acrylics), Marcus McClanahan (acrylics) and Hank Pulkowski (watercolor).

The show is hanging now and will remain through Saturday, May 14. There is no charge to the public. Gallery hours are Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. For information, call 910.575.5999. After Hours is a local band of seasoned musicians you may have seen performing at local restaurants here in Brunswick County. The popular ensemble brings their musical stylings to the gallery on the third Thursday of each month for two hours of standards and audience favorites.  The group often features a nationally known guest performer. Holly has a background in art therapy, but today employs birds and nature toward the same goals of wellbeing in her work as an environmental educator and birding guide. Learn why getting your daily dose of Ornitherapy is just what the doctor ordered as Holly discusses her book Ornitherapy For Your Mind, Body, Soul (co-written with Richard Crossley and Sophie Crossley). Dobie McArthur

The author is a prior-enlisted Marine who later attended the Naval Academy and was commissioned in the Marine Corps. He attended Oxford University on a Marshall Scholarship, obtaining a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies. After his active duty, he served on the staff of two senators and as a political appointee at the Pentagon in the George W. Bush administration. He will be discussing his two Civil War novels, Full Circle and Questionable Intent. Free, but call to hold your spot.

Charity Event

Artists are coming together to support purchasing gifts for 300+ children in the Backpack Food Program whose families don’t have enough for birthday presents. Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to bid for fine art in a silent auction. Final bidding will take place at a closing reception on Friday, June 3. Proceeds go to the Ministry.
