Cora is a Mexican painter and sculptor. His style has been described as neo-figurative and minimalist. He works in series, usually involving apostles, flowers, birds, and women, especially those of his native Nayarit Mexico. His teacher, Gilberto Aceves Navarro, introduced him to Ruffino Tamayo, through whom he learned various techniques that he still uses in his own work. He began painting in oils, then acrylics and enamels. Now he mixes the mediums. He often paints without sketching first, as he likes to be spontaneous. All four of the Cora pieces at Sunset River Gallery came to us from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
