He commanded the Scientific Investigation Bureau and was qualified as an expert witness in several forensic evidence areas. In “The Pipes Are Calling,” the latest in the author’s Danny Borland series, a retired detective’s home is burglarized and the two assailants, one black and one white, are killed. The detective is labeled a racist cop and subsequently convicted of murder. A bizarre series of events follows including a race against time.
