Thomas Kelso to speak about his medical thriller at Coffee With the Authors on May 10

Former Naval Special Warfare Development Group orthopedic trauma surgeon Mark Thurman and preeminent stem cell scientist, Claire Hodgson have discovered how to create human bones and heal fractures in days. They test their revolutionary methods on Mark’s ex-SEAL Team colleague, John Bristow who was shot and left for dead after an altercation at his farm. As the police search for a motive things begin to go sideways and it doesn’t take long for them to realize Bristow isn’t the person he appears to be. An intricate web of espionage and extortion is spun leading on a thrilling, treacherous journey pitting Thurman against those who will stop at nothing to obtain what his patient cannot give up.

Author Bio

Thomas Kelso is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has been in orthopedic practice since 1998. He earned his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and completed his medical education at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Prior to attending medical school he studied the effects of exercise on muscle metabolism and received his Ph.D. from Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He conducted research and authored or coauthored numerous research articles before entering orthopedic practice full time. Dr. Kelso received his orthopedic training at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. While in the Navy he served for two years as the medical officer aboard the guided missile cruiser, USS Virginia. After completing his orthopedic residency he was a member of the teaching faculty at the Naval Medical Center Orthopedic Department and Director of Residency Research. During this period he also served as the orthopedic surgeon for the Naval Special Warfare Development Group.

In 2000 Dr. Kelso left the military and practiced for ten years in Springfield, Missouri at Mercy-St. John’s Hospital, a level I trauma center. While practicing at St. John’s he received extensive experience in caring for orthopedic trauma patients. During this period he was also a team orthopedic surgeon for Missouri State University and the Springfield Cardinals baseball team, the AA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

He currently lives on the southeastern coast of North Carolina and is a full-time practicing partner in the Wilmington division of EmergeOrtho where he helps patients with arthritic joints and sports related injuries.
